Butian started out as an online dessert store that offers an array of cakes and drinks inspired by traditional Japanese tea. The store’s name, derived from the Chinese language, translates to ‘Not Sweet’, indicating their approach to crafting delicacies that balances natural flavors without overwhelming sweetness.
To expand the brand’s reach, the client sought to open their first physical location that would provide customers with dine-in experience.The design concept for the store was developed to further the brand’s philosophy, featuring a subtle and neutral tone that eliminates visual distractions, promoting mindfulness and elevating the sense of taste.
Central to the design is the main bar, which is accentuated by a diffused amber backlight that evokes the hues of a sunset. This creates an introspective atmosphere, granting patrons the mental space to savor the desserts and appreciate the beauty of such fleeting moments, much like a sunset.
