This home remodeling exercise is a journey to recollect fragments of historical sentiment from the Straits Settlements era, which saw the influence of British colonialism on the local region. To ensure aesthetic continuity, we incorporated repeated use of white panellings, architraves and louvered screens, with occasional dark mahogany accents. Wainscoting was lowered to two feet to make way for the homeowner’s vast collection of artwork.
The sitting room featured a hutch containing selected liquors to facilitate lengthy conversations, where legged seating pieces were chosen to elevate them from the delicate Persian rug beneath. Across the room, an archway boldly frames a poise dining room for ten, where occasional long meals are conducted by the passionate hosts. A ghostly Moooi Meshmatics chandelier hovers above the round dining table, almost levitating, to render the observer a moment of surrealism.
