Our narrative centres around the tall and narrow light well that spans across the three-storey intermediate shop lot. By removing the walls around the stairs, we connected all areas to the lightwell, filling every corner of the restaurant with natural light. Additionally, we split the ground floor lengthwise, creating adjoining indoor and al fresco dining spaces.
To preserve the building’s old charm, we took a non-decorative approach in treating the interior surfaces. The walls, floors, and ceilings were conserved or repaired, and bare plywood furniture were designed with legs to appear as impermanent objects.
